Thames Water pledges to help homeless people find jobs in the water industry
Thames Water has pledged to help people who are homeless or without secure living arrangements to find career opportunities in the water industry.
Thames has joined the homelessness help group of organisations, The Homelessness Covenant which was launched last week by the charity Crisis, and set up in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
Thames said it will create employment and training opportunities for homeless people and provide support for its own staff who may be at risk of homelessness. It said it was committed to increasing the diversity of its workforce “by building a pipeline of skills from local communities and the education sector and by creating lifelong employment and learning opportunities for its employees.”
The company said it was working with care leavers, prison leavers and neurodiverse people to attract and retain talent that represents the communities it serves and to increase social mobility.
Employers and partners that have signed up to the covenant have also committed to take further steps to end homelessness including supporting the charitable sector, through fundraising and support for their customers and local communities.
