RAPID gives Thames’ Teddington water recycling scheme the green light for Gate Four

The Regulators Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) has given draft clearance for the London Water Recycling scheme to progress to Gate Four of its staged approval process.

The Thames Water project will provide a drought-resilient supply for London by treating used water with advanced filtration techniques and discharging this purified water to the River Thames or the River Lee. The purified water would mix with the existing river water, and then be abstracted as a raw water resource to supply a water treatment works downstream. The preferred sub option within the scheme is for up to 75 megalitres per day of recycled water to be discharged into the River Thames at Teddington Weir, replacing the water abstracted upstream and sent via the Thames Lea Tunnel to support north east London.
