Cambridge Water: Stapleford and Shelford supply "is - and always was - safe to drink"

Following allegations of supplying polluted water Cambridge Water has asserted that the water supply to the Stapleford and Great Shelford areas “is – and always was – safe to drink”.

The statement followed a report in the Guardian last week that an aquifer supplying the areas had four times the regulatory limit of ‘"forever chemical" perfluoro octane sulphonate, and that this had been blended with other supplies and fed to the Cambridgeshire homes last year.

Cambridge Water said: “The way the story has been reported is factually inaccurate and now we are working with our customers, the media and other stakeholders to update customers on the facts which have been misreported.”
